Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Rick now provides online lessons through video and Zoom interactive classes. This has proved every bit as good as face to face lessons. Rick can show you close up techniques through zoom and can easily give advice whilst watching pupils paint and draw.

You can then progress to our How to Draw-Improvers course where you will experiment more in color and refine you technique.
This course is also suitable for those who already have a little experience, or who are more confident in their drawing skill. Portrait Classes This exciting course introduces you to basic techniques for drawing the human face. Using pencil, charcoal and paper you will look at proportion, shading, expression and capturing facial characteristics. Learn about human skeleton and muscle mass and anatomy, and understand more about drawing and mark making. Everyone from beginners to more advanced artists are welcome- this class is open to anyone with and interest in learning how to draw portraits. All materials are provided, and you'll receive plenty of guidance and friendly feedback.
This course explores basic art techniques that you can use to improve your work, and will introduce you to skills that will enable you to continue developing your portrait drawing outside of class. PORTRAIT DRAWING - COURSE CONTENT Exact course content may differ according to the course length and students' needs. Topics covered include:
- An introduction to the human facial proportions and anatomy
- How to capture expressions and facial characteristics
- Skeletal and muscular anatomy
- An introduction to the idea of light and shade, and how to depict shading on the human face.
- Perspective and foreshortening and how this is drawn in a portrait Pencils, charcoal and paper will be provided, but please feel free to bring a sketchbook if you like.
